It is common for students to encounter academic and social challenges during the middle school years. Middle school is a transition time for both students and parents. As middle schoolers become more independent, being a parent gets more complicated and challenging!!! Welcome to the "tween" year!!!
Counselors can provide strategies to assist parents in helping their child reach their academic potential. We have found that putting certain interventions in place can really make a difference. Success in middle school requires the collaborative effort of students, school personnel and families. Friendships In Middle School
If you were to ask most middle schoolers, they would say that their friends mean more to them than almost anything else right now. Middle school is a social place. Negotiating friendships can be difficult for some children, and can be a major factor with regard to the transition to middle school. Because middle school students often come together from various elementary schools, it is natural that students' friendships will shift, sometimes dramatically, during this time. This can be somewhat tumultuous for some children. Counselors and teachers are aware of this phenomenon, and are willing to help with this.

- Help students to be physically and mentally ready to learn
- Show support and interest in their daily activites
- Communicate with teachers
- Attend Partent Conferences
- Check Infinite Campus with your student on a regular basis
- Establish a regular homework routine
- Help with time management between school and other commitments
- Be a resource to your child as they complete homework
